ST. PAUL (KDLM) – Drivers are being reminded to remain aware of pedestrians in and around schools as students return to school this week.
Advocates say the volume of traffic and the volume of students and staff on streets near schools is returning to high levels.
“We really need to be conscious of and aware of school buses, they’re going to be all over the place again and drivers need to really pay attention to what they’re doing around those buses,” said Mike Hanson with the Office of Traffic Safety.
Motorists are required to stop at least 20 feet from a school bus displaying red flashing lights or a stop arm. Stop arm violations can result in up to a $500 fine.
