Detroit Lakes, MN (KDLM) – Detroit Lakes High School has announced that Brett Maass will be the new head coach of Detroit Lakes Laker boys basketball, taking over the program from Markus Okeson, who had been the head coach since the 2017-18 season.
Maass, who spent the last twelve years with the Norman County East/Ulen-Hitterdahl district, will also teach ninth-grade algebra at DLHS.
“I’m very humbled to be given the opportunity to teach in and lead the Detroit Lakes Lakers basketball program,” Maass said. “I’m ready to get to work.”
Maass will take over a Laker program that went 9-8 last year, then lost to St. Cloud Apollo on an overtime buzzer-beater in the opening round of the Section 8AAA playoffs, 54-52.
Maass was named head coach of the Ulen-Hitterdahl Spartans for the 2011-12 season, then remained the head coach when the school combined with Norman County East in 2013-14.
