(KDLM) – Former Vikings linebacker Chad Greenway has been busy since he retired from the NFL at the end of the 2016 season. After an 11-year career with the Vikings, he has continued to stay active with his Lead The Way Foundation which he founded in 2008, he helped start Midwest Spirits and Grey Duck Vodka in 2018, and he helps coach his daughter’s basketball team in Wayzata.
But as Greenway’s four daughters get older and started competing in varsity sports, he noticed that something was missing from Minnesota high school sports.
“There’s an app in South Dakota called SD Scores. My niece and nephew play in South Dakota. I downloaded the app to follow their games and scores and absolutely loved it,” Greenway told KDLM. “All the information for a high school sports team that you follow is all right there. Then my daughter started playing varsity hoops at Providence Academy so I’m trying to find information and schedules and rosters. I realized there was a gap here in Minnesota, and we wanted to fill it. So I called the developers of SD Scores and brought them to Minnesota.”
The result is the new MN Scores app, which is now live and free on Google Play and the Apple App store.
“It has everything: rosters, schedules, results, standings, rankings, stats. And it’s all in one spot. It’s something that’s been needed in Minnesota for a long time.”
The new MN Scores app will cover football and volleyball in the fall, basketball and hockey in the winter, and baseball and softball in the spring.
“The thing that we found in South Dakota with this is that it’s fan-driven,” says Greenway. “If you’re a Detroit Lakes fan, you can ‘favorite’ the Lakers in the app. As you click and favorite a team, you can be a scorer for that team. So if you’re at a football or volleyball game this fall, you can upload the score into the app. We don’t want any scores left blank, we don’t want any information left blank. We’re in the process of filling out our network team by team, town by town. And if you want to be the guy to keep your page updated, just reach out and let us know.”
