6:18 pm – Playoff Hole (Hole 1): Back to the 511 yard, Par 5 Hole 1. Welle won this hole the first time around. Both golfers set themselves up for long birdie puts to win the hole. Adams put the pressure on Welle by sinking his first long putt of the afternoon. Welle pushed his to the left. Nate Adams wins the 2021 Pine to Palm Golf Tournament in extra holes!

5:57 pm – Hole 18: Once down two holes with three to play, Adams has stormed back to tied things up with Welle on 18. Both golfers had long birdie putts, and each golfer came within a couple of inches of ending it. Both Adams and Welle two-putt and we’re heading to extra holes.

5:45 pm – Hole 17: Hole 17 is the final par three hole on the DCC, 175 yards from the tips. Adams stuck his tee shot 40 feet from the pin, while Welle hit his tee shot long over the green and down the hill of the elevated green. Welle’s second shot goes long over the green and comes to rest near the fringe. Long putt is left an inch short for a bogey. Adams two putts to birdie and win the hole. We’re A/S for a winner-take-all 18th hole.

5:35 pm – Hole 16: Adams, needing a run, hit the green with a four-iron on the 288 yard, Par 4 16th hole. Adams two putts for birdie. Welle misses his birdie putt and loses the hole. Welle is 1-Up with two holes left.

5:27 pm – Hole 15: Many Pine to Palm Championship rounds have ended on the 366 yard, Par 4 15th Hole at Detroit Country Club. Welle had a great second shot from the right fairway that landed 10 feet from the cup. Adams, needed to win the hole, landed his second shot within three feet. Welle sunk his birdie putt, and Adams’ rattled his putt home, too. Birdies for both. Welle remains 2-Up. Adams needs to win the next three holes to win the championship outright..

5:09 pm – Hole 13: Hole 13 heads back down west, with the water that on the left on Hole 12 is now on the right of Hole 13. Par 4, 338 yards. Welle sticks his second shot on the green within 20 feet. Adams hits the green, but the ball spins all the way to the fringe. The taller grass on the fringe keeps the ball from rolling all the way off the green and down the hill. Adams’ long putt comes to a rest two inches from the hole. Welle also two-putts and splits the hole. Welle remains 2-Up with five holes left.

4:57 pm – Hole 12:  Hole 12 is the longest hole on the back 9…487 yard Par 5. Water on the right and left. Welle’s second shot ended up right of the green at the bottom of a hill with a bunker at the bottom. He hit the green about five feet from the pin, but caught a little downhill to roll about 15 feet away. Adams misses hit putt to card a 5 with his penalty stroke. 4:35 pm – Hole 10: Hole 10 is a 397 yard Par 4. After long tee shots, Welle’s second shot ended on the fringe pin high. Adams shot hit within 20 feet, but a little backspin on the ball rolled it back around 30. Both golfers two-putt, both golfers par. AS/ thru 10.

4:24 pm – Hole 9: The front nine ends with a 419-yard Par 4. Adams ran into some trouble with his tee shot, hitting a bunker on the right side of the fairway. His sand shot hit the lip of the bunker and squirted into the fairway. Welle hit a great second shot, landing 30 feet from the pin. Adams gets on the green in four, misses his putt, and concedes. Welle wins his first hole since Hole 1 and we’re A/S heading to the back nine.

4:09 – Hole 8: Hole 8 is a 174-yard Par 3. Both golfers hit the green. Adams two-putts for par. Welle leaves his birdie putt short, then taps in for par. Adams remains 1-Up thru 8.

4:05 pm – Hole 7: Hole 7 is a driveable 286-yard Par 4. Welle missed short and had to hit around a tree. His hit bump-and-run shot ran off the green and onto the fringe on the far side of the green. Adams missed right. His chip runs about 10 feet short of the pin. Welle’s long putt finished two inches to the left and he taps in for par. Adams leaves his birdie putt on the edge, and he taps in for par. The whole is halved, and Adams keeps his 1-Up lead thru 7.

3:52 pm – Hole 6: Welle’s second tee shot lands to the left of the green. With Welle sitting four, Adams rolls his putt close. Welle concedes the hole. Adams takes his first lead and is 1-Up thru 6.

3:47 pm – Hole 6: Welle’s tee shot on six sails over the green and landed on the out-of-bounds line. After a lengthy discussion and measurement with rules and tournament officials, his shot was ruled out of bounds (by about two inches). Welle will take a penalty stroke and re-hit.

3:33 pm – Hole 5: Both golfers had eagle putts on the Hole 5 green. The green is small and both players fought the wind to have had great second shots. Adams’ eagle putt just misses to the left, Welle’s putt was just short. Pars for both golfers. We’re A/S through 5. On to Hole 6. 282 yards, Par 4.

3:24 pm – Hole 4: Both golfers had birdie putts on Hole 4. Welle’s second shot landed about 30 feet from the cup, with Adams’ rolling up the green to about 20 feet. Welle’s putt missed to the right as he records a par. Adams’ putt rims out as he two-putts for par. We’re AS through 4. Hole 5 is a Par 5 507 yard hole from the tips.
