DETROIT LAKES (KDLM) – High wind conditions have forced the Pelican River Watershed District to postpone a second Flowering Rush treatment.
Flowering rush is a reed-like wetland plant with pink flowers. The plant grows densely along shore land areas making it difficult to access open water, as well as provides unsuitable shelter, food, and nesting habitat for native animals.
Lakes Detroit, Curfman, Sallie and Melissa were to bel be treated with a chemical application on Wednesday, July 28; the Pelican River Watershed District is planning to reschedule the treatment for the week of August 9. Treatment signs will be posted in treatment areas.
It is recommended that irrigation using lake water in treated areas cease for five days after treatment.
