The Red Lake Police Department has identified the officer killed on Tuesday morning as Ryan Bialke, age 37.
Officer Bialke, a six-year veteran with the Red Lake Police Department, died of gunshot wounds while responding to a call regarding a suicidal male with possible children present.
The suspect opened fire on officers, then fled into the woods. The suspect was apprehended shortly after.
Bialke was transported to the Red Lake Hospital, where he died.

RED LAKE, MN (KDLM) – A Red Lake Police Officer had died in the line of duty.
The FBI in Minneapolis says a subject is in custody for the shooting death of a police officer on the Red Lake Indian Reservation Tuesday morning.
Authorities say Red Lake police officers were responding to a call at a residence when a subject fired a weapon, killing an officer.
The FBI says an investigation is underway.
The Red Lake Tribal Council also announced the shooting… and the tribal Chairman Darrell Seki directed all Tribal Programs and Businesses to lower flags to half-staff throughout this week.
