SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KDLM) – Former Hawley High School standout and Augustana pitcher Parker Hanson has signed a professional baseball contract.
Hanson will play for the Sioux Falls Canaries of the American Association.
“I’m so happy for Parker,” Augustana head coach Tim Huber said. “Every kid dreams of becoming a pro baseball player when they grow up, but not everyone has to find a way to get to that level with just one arm.
In 2021, Hanson saw action in 12 games for Augustana while recording a 1-1 record with a save. In 21.2 innings pitched, he struck out 27 hitters.
Born without a left hand, Hanson says he’s never looked at it as a disability and has played baseball since he was a kid, including varsity at the Hawley High School. In May, Hanson’s prosthetic arm and attachments were stolen from his car worth an estimated $15,000.
