DETROIT LAKES (KDLM) – The historic pioneer cabin at the Becker County Fairgrounds in Detroit Lakes has been given a facelift.
A six-person crew from Northern Bedrock Historic Preservation Corps in Duluth begin work on the cabin on Thursday, June 17. New cedar shingles, chinking and rotted out sill logs at the base of the cabin were replaced.
Becky Mitchel with the Becker County Historical Society says the cabin would have needed to be torn down if preservation steps hadn’t been taken, “the needs of this cabin were great, we were just a few years away from having to demo it, so Northern Bedrock Historic Preservation Corps came in and they addressed the most immediate needs.”
Additionally, window frames were replaced and a loft was stabilized. You can watch the preservation process below.
