Justesen Tied For 24th After Day One Of State Golf Tournament

(KDLM) – The Minnesota State Boys Golf tournament teed off at 7:30 am this morning at Pebble Creek in Becker (Class A), the Ridges of Sand Creek in Jordan (Class AA), and Bunker Hills in Coon Rapids (Class AAA) a year after the spring season and the subsequent state tournaments were canceled due to the COVID pandemic.

CLASS A:

Junior Ryan Petry of Fertile-Beltrami leads the field at the Class A tournament by four strokes after carding a 35-35-70 on the Par 72 Course in Becker earlier today. Petry and the Fertile-Beltrami Falcons are tied for the team lead with Sleepy Eye Indians by shooting a 321 (+33), two shots ahead of Legacy Christian Academy of Andover for third place. West Central Area is in fifth place with a team score of 350.

Section 8AA Medalist Lukas Justesen of Detroit Lakes shot a 39-39-78 on the Par 72 course at the Ridges of Sand Creek, which ties him for 24th in the field. Justesen is the lone Laker golfer competing in the State tournament this year. Beck Erholtz of Staples-Motley is in second place with a 33-38-71, three shots behind Sam Baker of Cloquet (34-34-68) for the lead. Cloquet leads the team portion of the meet after shooting an even 300 on Day One, five shots ahead of Totino-Grace and eight shots ahead of Delano. Staples-Motley is tied for fifth place with a 314. Section 8AA champion Roseau is in seventh place with a 326.

Sophomore Joe Kortan of Moorhead is in third place and only one shot off the lead at the Class AAA golf championship after shooting a 35-34-69 at Bunker Hills in Coon Rapids this morning. His teammate, senior Ian Simonich is in a four-way tie for fourth place after a 38-32-70. Edina leads the AAA Field after Day One with a 298 in a tight field at the top: Maple Grove is in second with a 301, Eastview is third with a 302, Alexandria is in fourth with a 304, and Chaska is in fifth with a 305.
