DETROIT LAKES (KDLM) – A GoFundMe has been created to help a Detroit Lakes couple who lost their home to fire after a lightning strike late Monday evening.

Lightning struck a tree near Tim and Heidi Stempf’s home on the 600 block of Main Street West in Detroit Lakes. The fire was contained to the roof area, but smoke and water damaged nearly everything inside.

“They have been through so much in the past year with our dad still recovering from the effects of cancer surgery and treatment,” said the Stempf’s daughter, Katyln. “They’ll will be taking time off of work to shuffle through what can be salvaged. As well as getting a new home set up for themselves. They are in need of basic necessities such as toiletries, clothes, and other miscellaneous items that we all take for granted each and everyday.”

Donations to the GoFundMe can be made at https://gofund.me/b25770a2 with a goal of $15,000.
