Lakes Area Lakes to be Treated for Curly-Leaf Pondweed, Wednesday

DETROIT LAKES (KDLM) – The Pelican River Watershed District will be chemically treating a number of lakes for Curly-leaf pondweed, Wednesday.

Curly-leaf pondweed is a submersed aquatic plant native to Asia, was first discovered in Minnesota in 1910. The plan overtakes habitat and outcompetes native aquatic plants. Additionally a midsummer die off litters shorelines with a large amount of dead plants.

Lake Detroit, Curfman, Sallie and Muskrat will be treated on Wednesday, May 26 pending favorable weather conditions. Treatment signs will be posted in treatment areas.
