DETROIT LAKES (KDLM) – Detroit Lakes Public Schools plan to have a record amount of students participate in summer school programs this summer.
More than 1000 students are currently enrolled for summer programming in Detroit Lakes says Detroit Lakes Superintendent Mark Jenson, “The state loosened some of the restrictions so if you remember summer school back in the day, you had fishing camp and art camp, and they’ve brought a lot of that back as well as the academic piece.”
The District will rely heavily on State funds this summer to provide a robust set of summer programming. Governor Walz on Tuesday announced the use of $75 million in Federal COVID-19 aid that will be used to fund summer school programming across the state for Minnesota students.
In Detroit Lakes, COVID dollars will help the District provide transportation for summer programming for the first time as well as to allow the free school meal program to continue.
