DETROIT LAKES (KDLM) – Detroit Lakes Public Utilities unveiled its new Waste Water facility on Tuesday, May 18 with a formal ribbon cutting.
The improved wastewater treatment facility is located at the same site as the current treatment facility, with new components built over and adjacent to existing structures. The facility will handle an average flow of 2.21 million gallons of wastewater per day, but must also be capable of treating peak flow events as great as 6.11 million gallons per day.
The $34 million overhaul began in April of 2018 and will replace aging facilities, meet stringent new nutrient load limits, and accommodate future population growth.
On hand at the open house were Detroit Lakes Mayor Matt Brenk, Detroit Lakes Public Utilities Commission President Jim Sinclear as well as state Senator Kent Eken and others.
