DETROIT LAKES (KDLM) – Detroit Lakes Public Utilities will unveil its new Waste Water facility on Tuesday, May 18.
The improved wastewater treatment facility is located at the same site as the current treatment facility, with new components built over and adjacent to existing structures. The facility will handle an average flow of 2.21 million gallons of wastewater per day, but must also be capable of treating peak flow events as great as 6.11 million gallons per day.
The $34 million overhaul began in April of 2018 and will replace aging facilities, meet stringent new nutrient load limits, and accommodate future population growth.
The open house will take place from 12:30-3:30 pm on Tuesday, May 18 located at 1044 W. Willow St. A ribbon cutting, tours and comments will be delivered from Detroit Lakes Mayor Matt Brenk and Detroit Lakes Public Utilities Commission President Jim Sinclear.
