DETROIT LAKES (KDLM) – After a year off due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Let’s Go Fishing Detroit Lakes is preparing to be back on the water and build their volunteer base.
Let’s Go Fishing returns the outdoor experience to those whom might not otherwise have the opportunity to fish, boat or enjoy time with friends on the water. Since their inception in 2002, they have served over 190,000 seniors, youth, veterans and disabled adults. More than 19 chapters exist throughout Minnesota and Wisconsin.
“We average about 100 to 130 trips a summer, basically our goal is to provide no charge fishing and boating – we go out and take seniors, kids and vets out and our primary venue is the Detroit Lakes area,” said Gene Benson a volunteer with the Detroit Lakes Chapter.
The group plans to hold a volunteer recruitment and training event on Thursday, May 13 at 6 pm at the Holiday Inn for anyone interested. More information is available at https://detroitlakes.lgfws.com/
