DETROIT LAKES (KDLM) – A groundbreaking for the new South Shore Park has been set.

The City of Detroit Lakes plans to add new amenities in the 5.5 acre park including a picnic shelter, playground and multi-use courts for tennis, pickleball, and basketball.

The public is invited to a Groundbreaking and an Open House set to take place on Wednesday, May 19 from 4-7 PM at the park. The event include an official groundbreaking with local officials, an open house style tour of the site and photos of the new amenities that will be located at the park as well as on-site food for purchase at the event from the Ice Cream Truck and Woodfire Pizza.

South Shore Park is slated to be completed by end of the summer at a cost of $925,000. The funding has come from grants, city funds and the park dedication fund. To-date $92,150 has been raised of a fundraising goal of $210,000.
