Detroit Lakes, MN (KDLM)-
Pending board approval, Reed Hefta will become the next head football coach of the Detroit Lakes Lakers.
Hefta will move from an assistant coach to the head job as Josh Omang transitions to the role of High School principal. In four seasons, Omang’s teams were 34-12 and made two appearances in the Section 8AAAA Championship game.
Hefta joined the Laker football coaching staff under Hall of Fame coach Flint Motschenbacher in 2013, and continued in his role when Omang was hired to succeed Motschenbacher in 2016.
Hefta is a health and weight training teacher at DLHS and has been with the football and speed and strength programs since 2013. He’s a Concordia College graduate who, as a Cobber, was named All-Conference three times as a defensive end. Hefta completed his master’s degree at Minnesota State University Moorhead in 2019.
