Mike Witt and Family Purchase Quality Bait & Tackle in Detroit Lakes

DETROIT LAKES (KDLM) – Quality Bait & Tackle in Detroit Lakes has new owners.

The store, now known as Witt’s Quality Bait & Tackle was purchased by Mike Witt and family earlier this month; the family also runs Witt’s Island Lake Bait.

While Witt’s Island Lake Bait is more of a country store with grocery, bait & tackle, Witt’s Quality Bait & Tackle will focus specifically on bait & tackle as well as hunting.

Witt says his new store will carry the same quality bait that he’s known for, “Everybody knows that I have a lot of contacts for bait, not only rockies, but I tend to have a lot more river bait than others, redtails, chubs and rainbows – I try to work a little harder than the others guys, right now I have shiners, and suckers and a lot of things other bait shops don’t have.”

For Mike, the bait business is a family affair, his parents, aunt, wife and kids are all helping make the two stores some of the best in the area. Mike’s also seen an increased interest in the outdoors, specifically fishing during the COVID pandemic. He says whether you’re an experienced fisherman or just getting into the hobby, he and his family are happy to help get you setup for your next fishing trip, “our bait’s guaranteed to catch fish or die trying.”

Witt’s Quality Bait & Tackle is located at 524 Washington Ave. In Detroit Lakes, open M-Sat 6am-7pm and Sunday’s 6am-5pm.
