DETROIT LAKES (KDLM) – The #2 seeded Laker girls basketball team never trailed against #7 St. Cloud Tech on Thursday night as they advanced to the next round of the Section 8AAA playoffs with a 67-52 win.
The Lakers and the Tigers both played strong defensively in the 1st half. The score at halftime was 25-21 in favor of Detroit Lakes. The Lakers were led by Junior Alex Bettcher, who finished the night with 21 points. Senior Sarah Tangen chipped in for 17 points and had three 3-pointers in the 2nd half.
St. Cloud Tech had a strong performance by Jayna Benson, who came off the bench and scored 21 points.
The Lakers advance into the next round of the playoffs and take on #3 Bemidji on Tuesday night. The Lumberjacks beat #6 Sauk Rapids-Rice 78-64 to move-on.
The Lakers and the Lumberjacks met earlier in the season, and Detroit Lakes beat Bemidji with Alex Betcher free throws in the last minute of the game to give DL the win 60-57 back on March 4th.
