Detroit Lakes, MN (KDLM)-

Military personnel serving on the USS Theodore Roosevelt are about to get a sweet surprise, courtesy of the Detroit Lakes Girl Scouts.

206 boxes of girl scout cookies are headed towards the Pacific Ocean, which is where the USS Theodore Roosevelt is currently stationed. The Nimitz-class aircraft carrier left its homeport of San Diego for her second deployment of 2020 in early December.

The box shipment was organized by Heather and Savanah Hayes, Riana Hendrickson, Reese and Terrah Kaul, and Genevieve Perry from Detroit Lakes, and Tami Hanson. 19 people purchased, then donated the 206 boxes through the Detroit Lakes and Pelican Rapids Girl Scouts. Every box will have a hand-written note of encouragement attached.

The boxes are being shipped to Noah Ballard (Pelican Rapids Class of ’20), who is currently serving his country on board the USS Theodore Roosevelt. Ballard will then hand out the boxes to his workgroup, rack mates, and other crew members onboard the carrier.
