Detroit Lakes, MN (KDLM)-

In the last minute of the game, free throws were enough to give the Detroit Lakes girls basketball team a section win over the Bemidji Lumberjacks 60-57. Junior Alex Bettcher made one of two free throws with 27 seconds remaining in the game to give the Lakers a one-point lead. The Lumberjacks came up empty on their next possession and were forced to foul once again, sending Bettcher to the free-throw line with 8.3 seconds remaining in the game. Bettcher made both free throws to give the Lakers a 3-point lead, a lead that they could hang onto to notch their 9th win of the season.

With the win, the Lakers are now 9-4 on the season and 2-0 in Section 8AAA games. The win, for the moment, solidifies Detroit Lakes as the #2 seed in the standings. The Lakers have one more section game remaining as they will host Sauk Rapids-Rice on Saturday, March 13th. The loss drops Bemidji’s record to 5-8 and extends their losing streak to 5 games.
