THIEF RIVER FALLS (KDLM) – The Laker boys hockey team fell to the Thief River Falls Prowlers 7-4 on Saturday evening at the Ralph Engelstad Arena in Thief River Falls. With playoffs around the corner, the Section 8A matchup had significant implications for both teams. The Prowlers jumped out to an early two-goal advantage when the Lakers answered back to make the game 2-1, with Senior Tommy Fritz finding the back of the net on the powerplay. After the Lakers scored, the Prowlers answered right back and scored an additional four unanswered goals, increasing their lead in the second period to 7-1. Detroit Lakes showed life despite falling behind by six goals and scored three unanswered.
Of the four goals scored by the Lakers, three came on the powerplay. Tommy Fritz finished the night with two goals, both goals coming on the powerplay. Detroit Lakes also got scoring from Junior Spencer Bergman and Junior Jordan Fields, with Bergman finishing the game with one goal and two assists.
Detroit Lakes struggled in the net on Saturday, with Junior Elijah Blow and Senior Jack Hines combining for 21 saves on 28 shots.
The loss drops Detroit Lakes to 6-7 on the season. The Prowlers improve their record to 6-5-1. The Lakers will return home to take on the Park Rapids Panthers on Tuesday at 7:00 pm. The Prowlers will look to move their winning streak to 3 games when they play Crookston on Tuesday.
The Lakers have five games remaining on the schedule, and three of the next five are against Section 8A opponents.

Girls Hockey: The Laker girls hockey team improved to 6-6 on the year with a win on Saturday against Morris/Benson Area 7-0. Detroit Lakes will look to move above .500 when they host Prairie Center on Tuesday.
