DETROIT LAKES (KDLM) – The deadline to apply for three of Becker County’s COVID-19 Business Relief Grants has passed, but money could still be available for business owners who have been affected by the pandemic.

Mike Brethorst, Becker County Administrator says the county will never turn someone away, “The programs are technically closed, but technically open – we will never turn someone away. We want to be able to help as many people as possible.”

The Becker County Board of Commissioners in cooperation with county business owners and the Detroit Lakes Chamber of Commerce created three grant programs to aid county businesses affected by COVID-19.

Those that wish to apply or missed the deadline should contact the County by phone.

Three grants are available:

A $2,000 grant has been extended and amended to allow for losses caused by state requirements that fell short of a full shut-down, such as when a portion of a business had to close, but the rest could stay open. The original $2,000 grant was for state-mandated full closures only.

A second grant, the Business Block Grant is designed for the hospitality industry, which will provide $5,000 to $20,000 to motels, bars, restaurants, gyms, caterers, bowling alleys and similar businesses.

A Third Round of the CARES Act Business Relief Grants is also available.

Additionally, the County added a $1,000 grant for child care providers. Applications for that grant are available on the county website until March 8, 2021.
