MOORHEAD (KDLM) – The Lakers were unsuccessful in knocking the rust off against the Moorhead Spuds falling on the road 81-48 on Tuesday night. Detroit Lakes hadn’t played a game since February 11th due to COVID-19 protocols, and it showed, as DL could not get it going offensively against Moorhead, a Class AAAA school. The Lakers fell behind early in the 1st half and trailed 44-23 at the break. Detroit Lakes was led offensively by Nate Cihak, a perfect four for four from the free-throw line, and finished the game with 14 points.
The Spuds depth was on display, with 12 different players contributing points for Moorhead, who improve their record to 5-7 on the season. The Spuds held their “Senior Appreciation Night,” and Senior David Lindell led the way, finishing with 14 points.
With the loss, Detroit Lakes falls to 6-3 on the season and will try to bounce back on Thursday night when they travel to Park Rapids (2-8).

Girls Hockey: The Lakers fell on their home ice, losing to the Northern Lakes Lightning 3-2 on Tuesday night. Detroit Lakes got two goals from Haley Stattelman, but it wasn’t enough. DL drops their record to 5-6 and hosts Morris/Benson Area (1-5) on Saturday afternoon.
Boys Swim/Dive: The Lakers fell at Fergus Falls 98 to 54 on Tuesday night. Detroit Lakes will be at home on Thursday night hosting Thief River Falls.
Nordic Skiing: The Laker Nordic Ski teams finished in second place on Tuesday at Bemidji’s Buena Vista Ski Area.
