One Dead in Early Morning House Fire in Miltona

MILTONA – Just before 6 Sunday morning, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office simultaneously received two 911 calls of a structure fire at an address on 1st Street in Miltona, MN.

The caller was reporting heavy smoke and visible flames coming from the home. Miltona Fire Department was immediately dispatched to the scene, along with Parker’s Prairie and Carlos Fire for mutual aid.

Upon arrival, on scene information was obtained that the structure may be occupied. Miltona Fire Department was able to gain entry to the two-story home and found one victim. The victim was extricated from the home and was not showing signs of life. Resuscitation efforts were made but unsuccessful and the victim was pronounced deceased on scene.

The State Fire Marshall’s office had been notified and the cause of fire is still under investigation.

Victim information is being withheld until family notifications are made.
