DETROIT LAKES (KDLM) – After two delays, anglers are ready to get on the ice this weekend for the Poles N Holes Fishing Derby.
The Derby originally scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 6 on Little Detroit Lake was postponed to the 13th and then again to the 20th due to extremely cold temperatures.
This year’s in-person derby is limited to just 250 people due to state restrictions amid the COVID-19 pandemic. “It should be a really fun day and we know that Minnesotans that have been cooped up all winter and maybe even longer are just dying to get out and enjoy some time on the ice, ” Brent Gerber, one of the organizers of the event said.
In its 11th year, the annual Poles N Holes Ice Fishing Derby hosted by the Detroit Lakes Breakfast Rotary Club has raised nearly $200,000 in funds to support area literacy, youth sports, senior citizens programs and community projects.
