DETROIT LAKES (KDLM) – Several Becker County Sheriff’s Deputies received life saving awards, Tuesday for rescuing a man from a lake over the summer.
Deputy Adam Douglas, Communications Officer Lynn Schulberg, Jeff Friesen, Chief Ryan Swanson and Christine Hoffart were presented the award for their efforts saving a man whose boat had capsized on Tamarac Lake.
The 58 year-old man clung to a seat cushion from his canoe, while a storm front pushed him across the lake, on August 20, 2020. Officers responded to the scene to find the man struggling to stay above water. The man was treated for potential hypothermia and credits the quick thinking of all involved in saving his life.
The life saving award is given for saving or attempting to save a life using modern life saving techniques and/or quick and appropriate actions in an attempt to save a life.
