Local Girl Scout Troop Donates Oxygen Masks for Pets to Detroit Lakes Fire Department

Feb 9, 2021 | 11:11 AM

DETROIT LAKES (KDLM) – Detroit Lakes firefighters will now have the ability to help family pets during fire calls thanks to a local girl scout troop.

Girl Scouts from Troop 993 used proceeds from their nut and candy fundraiser to donate oxygen masks specifically designed to be used on pets and animals.

Detroit Lakes Fire Chief, Ryan Swanson says the donation gives the department the ability to try to revive pets in an emergency, “They gave us three different sized masks, so now we have them and carry them on our rescue truck. If there is an incident and a pet is involved we have a way to get oxygen into their system and hopefully revive them.”

The Department hopes they don’t have to use the masks, but if they do, they say they now know they’ll be able to provide the best care possible.
