DETROIT LAKES (KDLM) – Less than two weeks after falling to Pequot Lakes 71-61, the Laker girls basketball team avenged their earlier loss by beating the Patriots 69-43 in a Mid-State Conference showdown.
After falling behind 16-8 in the 1st half, Detroit Lakes went on a 12-0 run, took the lead, and held on for a 69-43 victory. The Lakers were led in scoring by Senior Sarah Tangen, who had 20 points in the winning effort. Tangen, who sat out the last game between the two teams, had 14 points at the half and finished the game with four three-pointers. With the win, Detroit Lakes moves to 4-2 on the season. Pequot Lakes suffers their first loss of the year and moves to 3-1. The Lakers will return to action on Saturday when they travel to Fergus Falls to take on the Otters for a 3 pm game. Pequot Lakes will be back in action on Friday when they host Staples-Motley.

Girls Hockey: Detroit Lakes moves their winning streak to 4 straight as the Lakers traveled to Northern Lakes and defeated the Lightening 6-4. The Lakers were led to victory behind two goals by Emma Coley. Detroit Lakes moves to 4-1 on the season and will look to extend their winning streak to 5 games when they travel to Crookston on Friday to take on the Pirates in a Section 8A matchup.
Boys Hockey: Detroit Lakes pounded Breckenridge/Wahpeton on their home ice on Tuesday night with a 10-0 win. The Lakers will look for their third straight win as they will travel to Pequot Lakes on Friday. The Lakers are currently 4-2 on the season.
Boys Basketball: The Lakers Boys Basketball team snuck by the Thief River Falls Prowlers 60- 59 on Tuesday night in Thief. Matthew Tobkin led the way in scoring for the Lakers as he chipped in for 19 points. Detroit Lakes is now 4-1 on the season and has won 4-straight games. They will return to the hardwood on Friday at home versus Pequot Lakes.
Boys Swimming: The Laker Boys Swim and Dive team came up short against Perham-New York Mills on Tuesday night at the DLCCC, falling 98-59. Detroit Lakes will get back in the pool on Thursday when they travel to Morris.
Gymnastics: The Laker Gymnastics team hosted Park Rapids on Tuesday night at the Minnesota Flyers Gymnastics facility and came away with a win of 130.05 to the Panthers 118.85. Gymnastics will be off until February 9th, when they travel to Alexandria for a meet.
