DETROIT LAKES (KDLM) – MAHUBE-OTWA is encouraging Lakes Area residents within its 5 county service area to participate in an Annual Point in Time Homeless Count.
The nonprofit is asking residents who know someone who is homeless or will be homeless on Wednesday, January 27 to complete an observation form on their website.
Lisa Mistic, Community Engagement Manager at MAHUBE-OTWA says homelessness often goes unnoticed in the Lakes Area, “What we find is that folks might be staying in abandoned buildings, fish houses, their vehicle…they really are here, I think many of us don’t realize how truly invisible they can be.”
MAHUBE-OTWA’s increased push to count homeless in the area comes on the heels of $2.5 million grant announced in December, 2020 for its innovative homelessness-prevention program from Amazon founder and CEO Jeff Bezos.
Point in Time surveys may be completed anytime after 5pm on Wednesday, January 27 through Friday, January 29 and returned to MAHUBE-OTWA at Mahube.org
