PERHAM (KDLM) – A Minnesota nonprofit is helping law enforcement and military members and veterans with outdoor opportunities.
Hometown Hero Outdoors has provided more than 2,000 outdoor adventures for military and law enforcement members in the last three years to assist in healing and building healthy relationships as members integrate back into society.
The organization, which started in Minnesota has now expanded into 8 states.
“We do what we do because law enforcement and military walk the same path sometimes, we do it to build that sense of comradery, a lot of times when service members get out of the military it’s hard to transition to a civilian lifestyle so we provide them an avenue,” Minnesota Hometown Heroes Outdoor volunteer, Alan Larrimore said.
This summer, the organization is planning on taking Arik Matson, a Waseca Police Officer who was shot in the head, to Alaska for a waterfowl Hunt.
“Hometown Hero Outdoors is putting together a special hunt to hunt, King Eider. Everything is going to be covered for him and it will be a fantastic experience and a way to give back to Officer Matson.”
The organization is currently raising funds to support the trip by selling #MatsonStrong t-shirts which are available at hometownhereooutdoors.org
