DETROIT LAKES (KDLM) – There will be no fireworks at this year’s Polar Fest, however there will likely be a celebrity Polar Fest Plunger.

Event organizers have had to adapt this year to comply with current State Executive Orders as they pertain to gathering sizes and social distancing. The Frozen Fireworks will not happen this year, however the Polar Fest Committee hopes they will return next year.

The popular Polar Fest Plunge, in its 25th year will happen “by proxy”. With enough pledges, actor, Josh Duhamel will take the plunge on behalf of the Boys & Girls Club with video streamed online.

One of the events that’s new this year is a radio play written by local resident Kendra Gilsdorf that will be recorded live at the Historic Holmes Theatre and aired on KDLM on Saturday, Feb. 13 at 10am.

Other events include the Minne-“soda” Hotdish Challenge, a drive-through event this year and the Daddy’s Little Sweetheart Dance has gone virtual.

Polar Fest will be held Feb. 4 – 15. A full schedule of events is available at polarfestdl.com.
