
DETROIT LAKES (KDLM) – After suffering an overtime loss earlier in the week, the Detroit Lakes Lakers Girls basketball team bounced back with a convincing win against the Aitkin Gobblers on Saturday afternoon, 50-39.
Detroit Lakes had lost on Thursday night 67-63 to Crosby Ironton but secured their first win behind 21 points from Junior Alex Bettcher. The Lakers led at the half 26-19 and never trailed in the 2nd half.
New Laker Head Coach Rachel Johnson secured her first win as the head coach.
Detroit Lakes is now 1-1 and will look to move above .500 as they will wrap up their 3-game homestand on Tuesday night when they host the Thief River Falls Prowlers. Aitkin falls to 0-2 and will search for their first win on Tuesday when they travel to Crosby-Ironton.

Boys Hockey: The Laker Boys Hockey team fell on the road against the defending Section 8A champions, the Warroad Warriors. The Lakers were shutout in their first loss of the season, 6-0. The Lakers were outshot 31-19. With the loss, the Lakers fall to 1-1 on the year and will look to get back in the win column on Thursday when they travel to Long Prairie to take on Prairie Center.
