Frazee Man Blackmailed after Sending Explicit Photos Through Social Media

DETROIT LAKES (KDLM) – A blackmail scam involving intimate photos shared via social media has hit the Lakes Area.

A man in Frazee reported receiving a friend request from an unknown, young female. After receiving explicit photographs, the man sent photographs of himself back to the female at which point the unknown woman threatened to leak the photos if he didn’t pay.

Fraud experts say this type of scam is becoming more prevalent, but many of the incidents are never reported to Police.

The scam, usually on Facebook can also target people using dating apps on other social networking platforms.

Users are reminded to be aware that if you have someone who’s trying to meet you or friend you on social media and you’re not familiar with who they are be on alert. Personal information including intimate photos should never be shared online.
