BATTLE LAKE (KDLM) – A GoFundMe fundraiser has been started for the rural Battle Lake teen who was killed by his family dog, Dec. 10, 2020.

The Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office responded to a welfare check on Thursday, Dec. 10 and found 14-year-old, Dion Bush dead in the yard. It is believed the family dog a Polish Long Hair Shepherd, attacked him, however the family claims the dog did not maul him.

In an interview with the Fargo Forum, Bush’s mother believes he may have fallen and landed on the dog receiving a puncture wound to his leg; “Dion died from one tooth puncture to the femoral artery.”

Deputies reported that the dog was extremely aggressive when they arrived and at the request of the dog’s owner, the dog was shot.

Jennifer Bush, Dion’s mother says, “He is loved, missed and deeply mourned.” Funds from the GoFundMe fundraiser will help “due to loss of work and to cover the cost of a headstone” – the family is hoping to raise $5,000.
