Volunteers harvest blocks of ice from Little Detroit Lake
DETROIT LAKES (KDLM) – The annual Ice Harvest in Detroit Lakes may not happen after-all this year.
In early November, the MN Sn’ICE Ice Harvest Committee announced they were hoping to conduct the annual ice-harvest on Little Detroit Lake, however recent State COVID guidelines and warm weather have put those plans in jeopardy.
Becky Mitchell, a committee member says if there is an ice-harvest this year it will be a last minute decision, “It is a delicate dance as so many things are this year, I don’t think there will be any ice harvesting, if there is it will be something small and last minute.”
The MN Sn’Ice Ice Harvest Committee does plan to light up the Detroit Lakes City Park with a walking tour and interactive panel display Feb. 4-15, 2021.
Mitchell says they’re hopeful to be able to do more, but only time will tell.
