DETROIT LAKES (KDLM) – The City of Detroit Lakes Annual Meeting was held Tuesday with the addition of two council members and a farewell to another.
Alderman Aaron Dallmann (Alderman at Large) and Wendy Spry (Alderman Ward 2) were sworn in and Ron Zeman was appointed as Vice Mayor for another term, Tuesday.
Bruce Imholte, who has served on the city council for 20 years and did not run for re-election was awarded a plaque from the City for his years of service as well as the Jack Murray Award from the Coalition of Greater Minnesota Cities.
Imholte said it’s been an honor to serve for the past 20 years, “I’ve been honored to serve the citizens of Detroit Lakes and on the city council for the past 20 years; the citizens of Detroit Lakes have been well represented over my 20 years under the leadership of Mayors Matt Brenk and Larry Buboltz, various city council members as well as the city staff. Detroit Lakes has a reputation as a growing, well managed city. Its citizens have committed time, talent and treasury to ensure that all residents have access to a great quality of life. My thanks to all who have provided this.”
Imholte did provide some comic relief before he left, providing each council member with a flash drive containing 5 years’ worth of council meetings edited to contain only he and Ron Zeman’s comments as well as his thoughts on the “biggest” issues that the council discussed in his twenty years, “In my 20 years on the council we discussed a lot of important issues, like should we give $200 or $250 to the United Way; should someone be allowed to have two dogs and two cats or should it be three dogs and one cat – those are some of the weighty issues we discussed on the city council,” he joked.
